1960s - A Look Back

1965 – New Haven Jewish Community Council Housing Corporation is established. The Founding members begin to develop a plan to meet the needs of aging seniors in the area.

“As members of the New Haven Jewish Community Council Housing Corporation we believe that the elderly need a pleasant environment to live, with privacy, independence, and freedom of movement; an environment which facilitates and encourages social contact. Housing for the elderly should prevent the isolation and segregation of such citizens from the community by providing private quarters where they may entertain, and nearby shopping, health and welfare services and social activities. The housing for the elderly should never become a “home for the aged in any sense of the word, but rather a lively environment for the energetic and young at heart who want a stimulating place to live”

We thank our founders: Irving Enson, Beatrice Horowitz, Linda Kantor, Jay Vlock, and Leanor Wexler for their vision and deication.
